SICHUAN GARDEN. 295 Washington St., Brookline, MA 02446 & 2 Alfred St. Woburn, MA 01801
This restaurant is a hidden charm! Located in Brookline Village, Sichuan Garden has been rated as one of Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the United States. ZAGAT has also declared it Boston's best Chinese Restaurant for 8 consecutive years. So you know its got to be good just based on that. Since Sichuan food can be really spicy, its a great idea to ask your waiter for recommendations based on the level of spiciness that you can handle.
I cannot get enough off the Green Bean Tofu with roasted Chili Vinaigrette ($5.95.) This appetizer is cold and spicy but at the same time refreshing. The "noodles" are made out of tofu and are so soft that they easily break and can be difficult to pick up. I love the crunchy soy beans that are added into the vinaigrette, it adds a totally different texture.
This appetizer, OX Meat and Tripe with Roasted Chili Peanut Vinaigrette ($7.95) is also a hit at my house. It's another cold and spicy dish packed with meat. The minced peanuts sprinkled on top adds extra crunch which is really great.
The Sichuan Hot Chicken ($14) was the nightly special. The chicken had bones, was fried and super crispy. I loved the array of spicy peppers. The dish had great flavor but I wish there had been a little more chicken.
